Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based treatment for trauma, depression, anxiety, addictions, and more. EMDR has been shown to be effective in multiple studies and its effectiveness is presented in EMDR therapists’ offices (and online) every day. However, sometimes bizarre things can happen during EMDR processing. In this video, Dr. Robert Tinker explains and shares his experience of observing stigmata – the appearance of bruises and physical marks during reprocessing and the use of EMDR therapy for treatment of phantom limb pain.
Dr. Robert Tinker is a psychologist, an EMDR trainer who had trained thousands of EMDR therapists around the world including the United States, Africa, Canada, Europe, China Japan, and Kosovo. He has been publishing studies about EMDR since 1995 and co-authored the book Through the Eyes of a Child: EMDR for Children. Dr. Tinker started the first free EMDR clinic after the Oklahoma City Bombing, and started a non-profit that transformed to what today known as the Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP). Dr. Tinker is the recipient of the Francine Shapiro Award in 2014.
