Spiritual abuse may include trauma specific to certain religions or cultic groups, and it can happen in the home, in the community, or at the level of the state. Spiritual abuse is a legitimate form of abuse and trauma that can create powerful expressions of dissociation in the survivor in order to cope and ultimately to heal.
